Is Iran going too far by threatening to close the Persian Gulf to the U.S. Navy? Then we will look at if Governor Romney’s nomination by the Republican’s inevitable. Finally we will conclude with what the United States needs to do to turn its economic status around.
*To begin with let’s look at the issue regarding Iran threatening to close the Persian Gulf. While this is an insult to the United States and its military, it is a weak attempt by Iran to “hurt” us for placing strict economic sanctions on them. It is also an ignorant move by the Iranian president but I guess that has become a normal for him.
By closing the Persian Gulf, the nation of China and the rest of the Asian market would by far, experience the most hardship from the gulf being closed to trade and travel. While it would affect American gases prices, the effects most likely would not be substantial.
As I have said this is not a very wise move by Iran, considering they have already gone pretty far and avoided any military confrontation between Israel, NATO, or the United States. Any one of these three forces by themselves could take out Iran in a few months. There have been experts who have analyzed that the United States forces could take out Iran’s navy in a single day.
One would think that Iran would back off if the United States prepared for a military movement, but I don’t think they have enough common sense to do so. They seem determined to try to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, even if their trying ends up wiping them off the face of the earth.
The best bet for the United States right now is to take precaution for hostile Iranian forces in the area but go about their normal activities as far as trade goes. If Iran attacks, act in self-defense, but do not fire the first shots. The odds are that if the United States Navy wanted to push through there, it wouldn’t take much longer than if the Iranian Navy was even there.
*Let’s move on now to the race for the Republican nomination for president. It is becoming more and more apparent to me that unless things change in a hurry (especially in swing states), Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee for president. While I agree with Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich more than Mitt Romney, I think Romney is the best candidate from an economic standpoint and from an electability standpoint. I think George H. W. Bush and John McCain were thinking the same thing when they came out and publicly supported the governor. Also, I guy who I really get a kick out of, Chris Christie (Governor of New Jersey) has been supported Mitt Romney for several months now. I still am waiting to see how the candidates all do in swing states like Florida and Colorado in the next month or so, and if a more traditional Conservative candidate shows a comparable electability to Romney, I will not close in on a candidate at that point. If however, Mitt Romney sweeps through the swing states and even does half-way decent in the South, I think his nomination at that point becomes inevitable.
Regardless of who the next candidate for the Republicans is to run against Barack Obama, it is certain that he will have my support. Every single one of those candidates (Romney, Paul, Perry, Gingrich, Huntsman, Santorum) is an improvement of President Obama. That is one thing that I do not doubt for a second.
*Now we will conclude with what I think the United States as a whole should do to rebound their economy in 2012. A new year is often full of many great opportunities. For the United States the key to getting back our economic prosperity is through hard work and thought outside the box.
Why have Communist nations like the Soviet Union failed? The bottom line is that the experiment of Communism was not a successful one, because when the family structure is destroyed, there is no stable support system in place for individuals to achieve their greatest potential. The truth is that Democracy and Capitalism have fueled the United States to its prominence. One is always trying to better himself in hopes of gaining wealth, power, or a better standard of living.
In a Communist or Socialist society, wealth is spread out between all members of society regardless of their level of how productive they might be. What is the point for an individual to do better, if his incentive is simply going to be given to the guy down the street who does not work as hard. In these societies there is a cap on how much these people will achieve. More people means more production, but again there is a ceiling to it.
Although I believe President Obama honestly thinks he has the United States’ best interest in mind, I think he has missed the thing that has made this country so great. It is the unlimited potential of America and its people. While the Soviet Union hung with the United States for a while in production, military, and political influence, they eventually fell behind and disappeared because the people’s standards of living were inadequate and not motivational. The greatest solution to the economic issues in the United States is to open up industry, trade, and commerce, to regulate taxes in a way that promotes manufacturing here instead of abroad. With this approach, it won’t be long until the American economy roars again.
